AJ Styles was supposed to team with Abyss in this match but Abyss walked out before the match started.  AJ Styles defeated Legend & Northcutt by himself and Styles and Abyss were declared the champions.  On 2/25/04 Abyss defeated AJ Styles in a 4 Corners Table Match to win control of the titles.  However, the next week the NWA Board stripped Abyss of the titles and announced a tournament would be held to determine new champions.

The titles were held up on March 3, 1999 when they no-showed at an NWA Southwest card due to a snowstorm in the Northeast. They were scheduled to face Team Extreme for the NWA World Tag Team titles on February 26, 1999.
